Financial Planning and Analysis Specialist is reporting to the Country Finance Controller, FP&A specialist will assist in leading all the financial analysis, reporting, forecasting, planning, and optimization relating to the Critical Systems (CS) Business Unit (BU) for Eaton Electric South Africa. This includes the optimization and management of activities related to Pricing, Project / Production cost reviews and control, Inventory Management and Business Development. More broadly, this individual will support both day-to-day finance reporting, and long-term/strategic projects.

As a Financial Planning and Analysis Specialist, you will be responsible for:

  • Developing and leading strategies for improvements in cost effectiveness, relating to direct cost conversion and Labour efficiencies, manufacturing overheads (MOH) expenditure to improve business profitability through improved plant costs effectiveness.
  • Implementing strategies through coordinating meetings with productions and projects managers and other role players to ensure successful implementation and execution of the production /project plan through regular forecast calls and cost reviews.
  • Developing, managing and improving KPI’s, expenditure control systems and performance reporting systems to improve material conversion efficiency and reduce overall BU expenditure.
  • Preparing, monitoring, and controlling direct cost budgets and standards in conjunction with Financial Controller, and overall BU budgets including RMS to ensure expenditure and conversion efficiencies are in line with annual business plan.
  • Monitoring and planning for commodity pricing and their impact on the COGS through FX reviews
  • Preparing and presenting accurate BU performance indicators and information periodically at all levels using appropriate avenues and mediums (Stakeholders include; Plant Management, Executive Management and Regional Operations as and when warranted).
  • Supervising monthly, quarterly and annual systems’ closures to ensure that all deadlines are met, holding weekly and monthly meetings with budget holders, including action plan for cost control within specific areas.
  • Analyzing data and identifying risks and opportunities for the monthly results report and forecast.
  • Assisting the Country Controller in leading the Annual Budget/Plan preparation, building tools to manage monthly & Quarterly forecasting and reviewing with BU Leadership before submitting.
  • Assisting in the development and coordination of BU profit plans, monthly forecasts, financial reconciliations, reports and analysis for BU management, including variance analysis and cost control reporting and recommendations.
  • Managing, analyzing, evaluating and interpreting BU financial forecasts and operating results.
  • Informing management of results and recommending corrective actions to address unfavorable variances.
  • Being the key point of contact for manufacturing capital forecasting and reporting, project closures and backlog depreciation tracking with escalation to Country Finance Controller
  • Leading and supporting ad – hoc projects for the manufacturing site and business, change management, et cetera (SAP Implementation Liaison)
  • Advising and counseling BU Management on financial implications of operating strategies, cost control actions and decisions.
  • Reviewing, analyzing and evaluating financial data and information for accuracy, consistency and transparency.
  • Maintaining integrity of financial reports prepared by the BU.
  • Developing, controlling and maintaining adequate product costing systems for valuation and cost estimating activities.
  • Coordinating, supporting and managing the country strategic plan, annual profit plan and monthly rolling forecasts in conjunction with period financial reporting and accounting within the manufacturing business
  • Working with Country Controller & Country Manager in growing the manufacturing business profitably. This includes working with plant leadership teams to drive cost out activities.
  • Creating, promoting and sustaining a high-performance culture. Continuously raises the performance bar for the FP&A organization in the region.
  • Directing the efforts and reviewing physical inventory processes. Reviewing the results and works with plant leadership in recommending and driving actions for improvement.
  • Ensuring division is in compliance with GAAP and Sarbanes Oxley requirements. Overseeing the accuracy, correctness and timeliness of financial transactions affecting the general ledger accounting system(s).
  • Developing and managing key monthly financial processes to include month-end closing and forecasting. Being responsible for balance sheet integrity – working with the Financial Accounting specialists to ensure balance sheet reconciliations are completed and proper reviews occur to ensure close aged balance sheet actions items are closed out timorously.
  • Organizing and delivering appropriate management reports to country and regional management. Preparing meaningful variance analysis commentary for management and publishing accurate and timely financial reporting packages. Coordinate, interpret and respond to adhoc financial request within the region.
  • Demonstrating ability to drive process improvements: detecting the need for change, proactively gathering requirements, designing and developing processes, implementing change, and stabilizing process changes to deliver on stakeholder’s critical requirements.

In summary, the incumbent will assist the Country Controller in building capability within the FP&A function and take responsibility for providing the overall financial stewardship and direction to the manufacturing operations and their leadership teams in the pursuit of business goals and objectives


Your essential skills we are looking for:

  • Strong knowledge and expertise in Accounting and Financial Management, and business strategy.
  • Recognized Management or Cost Accounting/Finance Degree or equivalent professional qualification (CIMA is an advantage)
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in financial management in a business environment, preferably manufacturing.
  • Strong technical expertise, including US GAAP and IFRS
  • Previous experience working in a matrix or multinational entity is an advantage
  • Proficiency with MS-Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Being logical in approach & application with an ability to effectively diagnose problems and develop solutions.
  • Working well under pressure and is good at managing multiple tasks within demanding timelines
  • Having eager to work in a dynamic and complex organization
  • High level of enthusiasm with a “can-do” attitude
  • Passion for business and ability to drive change
  • Strong verbal and written skills with innate ability to establish cross-function relationships.
