Tzaneen Area – Limpopo: Our client is looking for a Farm PRODUCTION FARM MANAGER (AVO & MACADAMIA) – FM501 (Avo & Macadamia) to join the team.

Only candidates with the relevant experience will be considered

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Relevant tertiary qualification in agriculture, natural sciences, or business management
  • At least 5 years’ farm and/or production management experience
  • In-depth knowledge of all agricultural (avo & macadamia) production processes
  • Basic knowledge of the operation and maintenance of farm machinery, implements and infrastructure resources
  • Strong task instruction and delegation skills
  • Excellent operational planning, decision-making and prioritization skills
  • Strong attention to detail, communication and people management skills
  • Computer literacy

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide ongoing input into the company’s production strategy.
  • Irrigation Management
    • Design, implement and monitor the production unit’s irrigation plan in accordance with the company’s production strategy.
    • Probes/Tensiometers/ soil drilling
    • Irrigation water – Monitoring of water meter readings and maintenance of system
  • Fertilizer Program
  • Manage the production unit’s fertilization and crop manipulation plan as instructed by the Production PRODUCTION FARM MANAGER (AVO & MACADAMIA) – FM501.
  • Fertilizer and spray fertilization on both farms
  • Leaf/soil analyses
  • In accordance with the company’s production strategy, manage pest prevalence threshold by implementing and monitoring the production unit’s pest and disease management plan as co-developed with the Entomologist and Production PRODUCTION FARM MANAGER (AVO & MACADAMIA) – FM501.
  • Design, implement, and monitor the production unit’s general orchard maintenance plan in accordance with the company’s production strategy.
  • Pruning Program
  • Manage sound pruning practices to ensure long-term production optimization.
  • Training of pruners
  • Prune between 10 – 20% so that production is not affected too drastically
  • Monitor and report on crop development, estimates and quality attributes.
  • Manage relevant aspects of the harvesting process as delegated by the Production manager.
  • Audits
  • Manage recordkeeping and reporting of all production related information in accordance with the company’s export systems & processes.
  • Global Gap/ Nurturers/FFF/Siza/Waitrose and any new requirements that arise
  • Implementation of systems
  • Stock taking/record keeping/staff training
  • Put systems in place to monitor Water/ Electricity/ Fertilizer/ Chemicals/ fuel etc.
  • Manage all mechanical and infrastructure resources of the production unit to ensure optimal utilization and availability.
  • Manage the production unit’s activities to ensure compliance with relevant legislation, accreditations, and market access requirements.
  • HR
  • People management in accordance with the company’s Human Resources policies and procedures.
  • Appointment and training of staff
  • Disciplinary hearings – Internal
  • Provide input into the production unit’s budget as required by the Production PRODUCTION FARM MANAGER (AVO & MACADAMIA) – FM501, with monthly variances accounted for.
  • Maintenance of buildings and vehicles and the implementation of maintenance schedules

  • Security
  • Production management – increased production and cracking percentages
