Vendor Manager (Africa)

PCCW Global is seeking a Vendor Manager based in Johannesburg to support sourcing activity in the Africa region. As part of the Vendor Management Europe & Africa team, the Vendor Manager is responsible for sourcing suitable connectivity quotations and solutions for our customers, and providing them to PCCW Global Presales in a timely manner. S/he will also source capacity for PCCW Global’s own network backbone. The Vendor Manager negotiates best cost and commercial terms with vendors. S/he works to keep the contracts and commercial arrangements with our vendors up-to-date, with best in market pricing, performance, and products. S/he recommends and supports implementation of cost savings, in accordance with the regional strategy.

Specific duties include:

  • Support Presales, Product and Engineering for quoting and sourcing in-region capacity and access requirements.
  • Develop market knowledge in the assigned countries with detailed knowledge of vendor capabilities and pricing competitiveness.
  • Support cost reduction projects such as discounts on renewals, vendor migrations, outage credits, negotiated price books, etc.
  • Engage with vendors on a regular basis to ensure strong business relationships.
  • Help with vendor escalations (high tiers)
  • Learn and become an expert user of the company’s internal tools and information systems (Vendor Information Management system, QuickQuote internal quote system, Jira, Confluence, Slack… )

Skills/Qualifications

Candidate should have experience and abilities as follows:

  • 5-7 years business experience in the telecommunications industry (preferably data)
  • Experience in an international and multi-cultural work environment
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to independently manage a wide spectrum of activities, tasks and projects, in a fast paced and changing environment
  • Excellent analytical problem solving, communications and negotiation skills
  • Computer literate
  • Business oriented
  • General understanding of current market trends (e.g automation, digital transformation, Edge computing, Ecosystems…)
  • At times, based on business needs, in-person meetings with vendors and/or PCCW Global colleagues will be required, some of these meetings may require travel (infrequently)
