Applications are invited for the above-indicated vacancy within Newzroom Afrika. The incumbent will report to the Output Editor.
Purpose
The Executive Producer (isiXhosa) is a critical member of the news department.
The EP is responsible for the ensuring that the on-air product is delivered in an engaging, accurate and professional manner. Under the leadership of the Output Editor, you will shape and create news coverage that sets Newzroom Afrika apart from other broadcasters in South Africa and beyond.
Working in conjunction with the Bulletin Editor, you will be responsible for the overall editorial content, and direction of the bulletins. The Executive Producer will be in charge of the overall news bulletin in isiXhosa including editorial oversight, management of reporters, oversight of all on-air and in-studio elements, as well as creating the rundown.
Key responsibilities
Working under the direction of the Managing Editor and Editor-in-Chief, to produce distinctive coverage of major news events which are relevant to the specific audience.
Assisting with the writing, checking and subbing scripts that will go into the rundown
Ensuring Newzroom Afrika’s editorial guidelines and values are adhered to.
Working closely with all members of the Newzroom Afrika team including the input desk and online, to cultivate a collaborative approach to news gathering and delivery for the news bulletins
Play a mentorship role
Work closely with guest producers and show producers to deliver high quality on-air guests and discussions
Think creatively in how to continuously better the on-air product
Create unique and show-specific content
Create straps and on-air elements
Q’Cing all on-air content
Subbing content
Effective and authoritative communication with the news anchor the output and input teams
Ability to direct the teams in a breaking news environment
Ensure the programme continuously meets Newzroom Afrika’s Audience Ratings’ targets
Cultivating a good and strong team culture
Competencies

Fluency in isiXhosa
Excellent written and verbal skills in isiXhosa
Minimum of five years’ experience in television news and production
Good understanding of legal and ethical issues with regards to TV broadcasts
Understanding of BCCSA Code of Conduct
Excellent Editorial Judgment
Agility in making editorial decisions and communicating effectively to the anchor and gallery crew
Excellent Communication skills
Excellent knowledge and understanding of local issues
Relevant journalism or media qualification
Knowledge of newsroom production systems and workflows
Must be prepared to work shift hours, including early morning and late evening
