The role:

The purpose of this position is to take overall responsibility for coordinating and managing the bursary and scholarship schemes for the Seriti group.


The duties will include but are not limited to:

  • Bursar Governance – Creating and maintaining Bursar Policies, Review compliance to Policies, including Creating and maintaining Bursars Contracts
  • Bursar Pipeline Planning – Establishing the need for Bursars based on Business needs with all Heads of Departments, B-BBEE targets, SLP commitments, as well as working with Community Department to establish Community pipeline planning
  • Recruitment of Bursars on a Continuous basis, marketing the career paths and bursaries offered by Seriti. This will include networking with tertiary institutions etc.
  • Alignment with Tertiary Institutions – Understanding the Quality of the education presented, e.g. accreditation
  • Selection, Short Listing of candidates, conduct and arrange bursar interviews
  • Student Liaison and Development Activities – Bi-annual Student Visits and Ongoing liaison
  • Management and Monitoring of student Academic Progress, support if students are experiencing difficulties with specific courses, arrange for course of action such as extra tutorials with senior students, advise the lecturers of the difficulties that the students are experiencing, arrange professional emotional support. Liaise with L&D Managers to provide support as well
  • Liaison with Institutions and Departmental Staff, building relationships with the various tertiary institutions and departments for information, students’ progress and all the development which may affect bursars
  • Collection and interpretation of results (per semester and year-end), and interpret to decide on student plan, make recommendations to the HRDs at Ops. Advise the university in writing of the students’ funding status, counsel students and advise them in terms of the most suitable way forward for those who must exit
  • Placement of students for vacation work and practical training, projects and presentations
  • Financial Administration, Electronic filing of all Bursar communication, payments, progress and personal data, arrangement of ON TIME payment of all costs of individual Bursars which diffs per institutions – study fees, residency, laptops, cash allowances, books etc.
  • Reporting monthly, quarterly, bi-annually & yearly on student results, payments, costs etc. or as required


You will need:

  • Diploma / Degree in Human Resource Management or Development / Industrial Organisational Psychology (NQF Level 7)
  • A minimum of 3-5 years’ experience in Human Resources Management / Development / Talent
  • Knowledge of HR best practices in talent management
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation
  • Knowledge of HR policies, procedures and practices (specifically talent management and learning and development)
  • Skilled in the following areas: Financial, planning, organizing, networking, time management, facilitation and presentation
  • Advanced computer literacy skills (MS Office – specifically MS Excel)
  • Valid driver’s license
  • In possession of or able to obtain a certificate of fitness



  • Basic understanding of bursary management
  • Safety & Risk Management Courses
  • Experience in SAP
