Our client is looking to employ a Seed Analyst to ensure the quality and standardization of seed products throughout production and distribution. Expertise in seed biology, chemistry, and scientific principles is essential to uphold the company’s high standards in delivering top-quality seeds worldwide.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform various tests and procedures to determine seed germination, purity, viability, and vigour.
  • Follow the guidelines set by the International Seed Testing Association (ISTA) to ensure compliance with local, company, and international standards.
  • Set up laboratory equipment and prepare samples for testing.
  • Conduct purity and germination analyses in accordance with ISTA rules.
  • Calculate percentages for purity and germination tests and prepare reports.
  • Evaluate analysis results and make recommendations for further action if necessary.
  • Maintain accurate records of test results and recommendations.
  • Collaborate with the Quality System to identify and report quality problems and provide solutions to non-conformances.
  • Comply with verification and calibration standards of equipment.
  • Compile and issue laboratory reports according to ISTA, NDA, and SANSOR prescriptions.
  • Adhere to health and safety rules and company procedures.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain working instructions for laboratory and safety procedures.

Additional Duties:

  • Maintain a safe work environment by complying with health and safety regulations and guidelines.
  • Report any hazards identified and actions taken.
  • Perform any other reasonable task as requested.

Requirements:

  • Qualification in seed science, biology, agronomy, or a related field.
  • Prior experience as a Seed Analyst or in a seed testing laboratory is preferred.
  • Knowledge of seed biology, chemistry, and scientific principles.
  • Familiarity with ISTA rules and regulations for seed testing.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in conducting tests and preparing reports.
