BUTCHERY MANAGER

Our client, a friendly and fast-working convenience store in Kuilsriver, has an excited opportunity available for an experienced Butchery Manager.

Duties & Responsibilities:

The successful candidate’s responsibilities will include the day-to-day Operational Management of the in-store butchery, including selection, ordering, preparation, display, packaging, and sale of meat to consumer and commercial customers. The duties and responsibilities will include:

  • Run special offers, customer loyalty schemes and similar in consultation with senior management as agreed and appropriate
  • Inspect equipment regularly to ensure it is in good working order and safe to use
  • Ensure accurate blocking of all meat categories
  • Ensure correct processing of all cuts via the computer system
  • Placing of orders and weekly stocktakes
  • Manage waste and gross profits
  • Plan annual and interim labour requirements according to specific volumes and retail requirements
  • Schedule work activities, rotation, and holidays in consultation with management ensuring butchery opening times are maintained
  • Manage butchery permanent and casual staff, including but not limited to management of productivity, overtime, leave, etc.
  • Evaluate staff performance, identify development needs, and provide feedback and training (including on-the-job training) or coaching as required
  • Motivate and develop the team including setting objectives & strategies
  • Equip staff with the required tests and equipment to assure product standards are upheld
  • Ensure that Policies and Procedures are followed, and amended to support an everchanging environment, train staff as required for new rollouts
  • Ensure that correct processes are followed when dealing with IR issues
  • Prepare special cuts of meat ordered by customers
  • Assist and resolve customer queries
  • Daily telephonic feedback meetings with the manager
  • Support department managers and co-employees
  • Actively participate as a member of the team
  • Perform any other task, not specified herein, which from time to time may be assigned by the management

Key Requirements and Competencies:

  • Grade 12
  • Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand Afrikaans & English
  • Minimum of 3 years experience working in a Butchery and/or Production in a retail environment
  • Previous management or supervisory experience will be beneficial
  • GP and Waste Management experience is essential
  • Extensive knowledge of alternative meat cut re-processing.
