Key responsibilities include:

  • Process, interpret and integrate various types of geophysical data including magnetic, electromagnetic and gravity data.
  • Provide geophysical insights to support Exploration decision making and produce a list of recommendations.
  • Conduct forward and inversion modelling.
  • Integrate modelling products with other datasets (petrology, structure, mineral chemistry) in collaboration with other specialists/stakeholders (field geologists, petrologist, structural geologists, geochemists etc.) either as part of Technical Reviews or for active venture projects.
  • Provide geophysical services to the ventures and specialists by designing fit for purpose geophysics surveys (airborne and ground) to inform exploration e.g. understands the granularity of information needed and scopes surveys accordingly.
  • Training of geophysicists and field personnel. Evaluate geophysical equipment to determine if it is fit for purpose and fit for use and make recommendations in terms of most suitable method and execution.
  • Data quality control and assurance and data management.
  • Responsible for geophysical data archiving, data structuring, data publishing and data requests.in the correct, approved repositories according to approved standards.
  • Member of the De Beers global targeting team, contribute with regards to global geophysical datasets and targeting efforts.
  • Continuously identify areas for improvement in terms of value-add, driving efficiencies, supporting sound decision-making and finding solutions which significantly contribute to business results and improved competitiveness.
Qualifications:
  • BSc Honours degree in Geophysics.
  • MSc/PhD (NQF 9/10) would be an advantage.
  • Registered professional in a recognised body (e.g. SACNASP) or eligible for such registration.
  • Drivers license

Role-specific knowledge and experience:

  • 7-10 years’ experience post qualification working in the geophysical field, preferably on kimberlites or related rocks.
  • Proven ability to interpret, integrate and report geological and geophysical and technical information.
  • Scientific publication record would be advantageous to demonstrate competence.
  • Proven data quality control and data assurance experience.
  • Proven data management and data analysis experience.
  • Advanced in geophysical processing and 2D and 3D inversion software (e.g. Geosoft, Voxi, Matlab, Model Vision Pro, Profile Analyst, ArcGIS Pro, GoCAD, Leapfrog, Geoscience Analyst, UBC inversion geoapps, SimPeg and Geomodeller, VPEM3D, WinGlink, ModEM3D).
  • Exploration techniques and processes.
  • Advanced data processing, analysis and management.
  • Advanced geophysical survey techniques.
  • Advanced geophysics data interpretation.
