Deltamune (Pty) Limited, an independent centre of excellence, is a South African-based biotechnology company. Our focus is on veterinary health offering vaccines on a commercial scale. Deltamune’s veterinary vaccine range includes registered and autogenous vaccines for poultry, ruminants and other species. Deltamune invites all suitably qualified and experienced candidates to apply for the following vacancy:

POSITION PURPOSE

The Handyman will work within our Maintenance Team to maintain our manufacturing equipment and facility.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
  • Maintain a Planned Preventative Maintenance System for a small manufacturing facility.
  • Attend to mechanical and electrical breakdowns.
  • Inspection and repair on machinery and equipment.
  • Maintain the consumable and critical spare parts store and inventory.
  • Consumables and expenditure tracking and reporting.
  • Negotiate with service providers and contractors to always ensure best price and quality of service.
  • Advise management on equipment purchases and improvements.
  • Contribute to the planning, design, construction and commissioning of some new equipment.
  • Maintain database of suitable contractors and service providers.
  • Maintain facility alarm systems and critical equipment notification systems.
  • Maintain and monitor critical equipment such as water purification systems, HVAC, Compressed Air and Boilers.
  • Ensure that all maintenance requests logged are dealt with within the required time.
  • Reduce waste and suggest the use of more environmentally friendly substances and practices.
  • Write, review and update SOP’s for the department and give training to staff.
  • Apply OHASA in department.

SPECIFICATIONS

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Minimum 15 years’ experience
  • Valid Driver’s License
KNOWLEDGE / EXPERIENCE:
  • Must be an experienced welder.
  • Electrical and plumbing experience and knowledge.
SKILLS / ATTRIBUTES / COMPETENCIES:
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including flexibility and
  • the ability to work well in a team environment
  • Must be hands-on
  • Have an outstanding control of power and precision tools
  • Inspect machinery and use advanced troubleshooting techniques
  • Clean, repair and replace worn or damaged equipment
  • Read gauges, micrometres, and scales
  • Computer skills; efficient in MS Excel and Word
  • Ability to prioritise, work under pressure professionally, with tight deadlines.
SPECIAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
  • Candidates must be able to periodically work in rooms that require specialize manufacturing and biocontainment protective gowning and equipment. Biosafety level 3 experience is a plus.
  • Candidate must be willing to work after hours and weekends on short notice when required.

  • Will have to be willing to undergo a medical examination for biosafety level 3 clearance.

  • In excellent health and fit.
